I find some of the best meals I’ve had were shared platters with friends. I created Hunter & Barrel to be an experience to share with friends and family, a group dining restaurant. To this end, I am bringing some group sharing specials. Everyone can enjoy the same expertly prepared and cooked meats, sides and drinks.

Crafting Group Dining Feasts

Crafting the best group feast is more than doubling up on the amount of food. Planning what to cook and when to cook, what’s the perfect cooking time for your meat to satisfy everyone, are there any special dietary requirements, and how much food is enough food.

A lot of planning is involved, but my guys are here to help. Find out the best cooking techniques for a large group of people, and speak to my team about how they can cater for your group dining event.

Thinking outside the box is a great way to share dishes. My restaurants are renowned for their char-grilled steaks. Have you ever thought about sharing a steak? It could be that one steak is too much for you, but you still want that smokey, meaty sensation. 

We have 2 options on our main menu for sharing dishes. Our ‘Feast for two’, has a Tahini chicken skewer, a 200g rump steak, 1.2 a rack of pork or beef ribs, a boerewors coil and your choice of sauce. Or you can tuck into a sharing steak, either a 700g t-bone, or an amazing 1.1kg tomahawk.

Preparing the best cut of meat and cooking it slowly over coals is just half of the food journey. How my chefs marinade and rub the meats while they’re cooking is that extra ingredient that makes Hunter & Barrel meats the finest you’ve ever tasted.

Our Wagyu beef is marinated in a classic BBQ dry rub of smoky spices, garlic and onion powder, brown sugar and dry herbs; The Lamb rump is marinated in Middle Eastern style spice rub based on fenugreek. For something very Australian, try our kangaroo fillet, marinated in a mix of native Australian dry ingredients such as wattleseed and pepperberry.

You can elevate the tastes of your skewers and shared meals with dips and sauces. Try a Jus & Chilli sauce, a peppercorn and peri peri sauce for a little heat, or our confit garlic butter and mushroom sauce for that warm, wintery sensation.

Ask the friendly staff in any of my restaurants for what seasonal dips we have available, something the chefs have whipped up for you, such as mint and lemon yoghurt for those spicy dishes, or our Japanese dashi aioli.
