A brief history of our favourite summer tipple 

When it comes to popular aperitifs, Aperol is relatively new. 

In fact, it was only created in 1919 – making it exactly 100 years old this year, and the perfect time to indulge in a few Aperol cocktails. 

It was created in Padua, Italy, and quickly became popular amongst Italians throughout the 20s and 30s, making it something of an Italian icon.

Jump forward a couple of decades, and the love of the Aperol Spritz was just starting to bloom. Three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol, and one part soda water, the spritz became a hallmark of sunny afternoons and catch up with friends. Topped with plenty of refreshing ice and the citrusy sweet pop of a slice of ripe orange, it’s hard to go past the Aperol Spritz no matter what else is on the menu. 

What to eat with your Aperol Spritz

Bright orange and daringly bittersweet, the Aperol Spritz is the party-starter du jour – but what goes best with this Australian favourite?
